Description

Basic Function: Conducting engineering studies on utility power systems.

Education: Electrical Engineering degree from an accredited ABET university with emphasis on power systems.

Required Skills:

  • Six months of experience conducting simulations and analytical studies of electric power systems including harmonic, transient, stability, and load flow analysis

  • Minimum of six months of user experience of at least two power system simulation tools such as PSCAD, EMTP-RV, CYME, Digsilent, PSS/E, GE PSLF, Cape, OpenDSS, ASPEN etc.

  • Excellent communications and report-writing skills in English

  • Demonstrated knowledge in at least one high-level programming language (Matlab, VBA, Python, Java, C++, etc.)

  • Demonstrated knowledge of data analysis techniques

  • Work with minimal supervision

  • Attention to detail

  • Minimum of 12 hours in Power Systems Engineering Coursework

  • Minimum of a master’s degree in electrical engineering with emphasis on power systems.

  • Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Perform power system studies on wind plants and utility systems including harmonic analysis, transient analysis, temporary overvoltage/overcurrent analysis, ground fault settings, arc flash studies, short circuit studies, and simple protective device coordination

  • Perform data analysis related to distributed generation and power quality

  • Develop software tools to assist in power system studies and data analysis tasks

  • Publish and present study results at meetings and conferences

  • Assist other engineers with power system studies

  • May perform power quality measurements at wind plants

  • Perform routine work that conforms to all project/task requirements and that requires a basic understanding and application of engineering theories, standards, concepts, techniques, as well as, knowledge of engineering/industry codes and government regulations
